Below is homework for the week. I haven't given Irish homework this week. I want them to focus on becoming familiar with the Novel homework and team teaching homework. Irish will resume next week.
Can you please check that your child has a ruler, pencil and red pen for this term.
I have given every child a home/school links maths booklet. This is for your reference if you want to further support or expand a topic at home. This booklet can be kept at home.

The Butterfly Lion
Over the
next 8 weeks we will be reading a class novel. The work we will be doing will
cover all strand units of the English curriculum- Reading, writing and oral
language.
The objectives of doing this novel are;
·
Develop
confidence and competence at reading fluency.
·
Read
for enjoyment.
·
Increase
understanding of challenging vocabulary.
·
Become
more confident finding words in a dictionary.
·
Improve
presentation of written work.
·
Give
their thoughts and opinions on a novel.
·
Give
their thoughts and opinions on characters in a novel.
·
Answer
a range of comprehension questions.
·
Write
a character profile.
·
Write
a book report.
The children
will meet these objectives in class and through nightly homework.
Some
children will find aspects of the reading challenging. If you wish you may do
shared reading- where you and your child both read together/read every second
paragraph. They still will be able to hear the new vocabulary, increase their
comprehension skills and read for enjoyment. If the novel is still causing
difficulty, please let me know.

Writing homework
The written homework each week will be based on the chapters
read that week. Please repeat the dictionary and sentence work each week for
each new chapter. Make sure that the children are presenting their work well
each night. As well as increasing confidence and competence in vocabulary, the
children should also be working to continue to improve the presentation of
their work.

Oral Language
Please find questions based on each chapter attached. They
need to be answered each week orally after
each chapter is read. I would suggest that you focus on reading the chapter on
a Monday and then discuss the corresponding comprehension questions on a Tuesday.
Likewise focus on reading the chapter on a Wednesday and then answering the
comprehension questions on a Thursday. As I say to the class comprehension
questions aren’t a memory test- The child can scan back through the chapter if
required to help them find an answer. We will review these questions in school
also.
